Background & history
Jason Robins was born in 1982 and studied economics and computer science at Duke University. He started his career at Capital One working on customer-behaviour modelling, then moved to the e-commerce company Vistaprint in 2008 in marketing and analytics. In late 2011 his Vistaprint colleague Matt Kalish pitched the idea that became DraftKings; Robins, Kalish and Paul Liberman quit their jobs, set up in a spare bedroom, and incorporated DraftKings on 31 December 2011. The first product, a one-on-one daily fantasy baseball game, launched on MLB opening day in 2012, and Major League Baseball invested the following year. Robins led the company's pivot from daily fantasy sports into a full US sportsbook and online casino after the 2018 legalisation of sports betting, and took DraftKings public in 2020.
