Australian National Self-Exclusion Register Recorded More Than 40,000 Registrations Since Launch

Australia’s National Self-Exclusion Register, BetStop, has reached more than 40,000 registrations ever since it went live.

According to the report by BetStop, by the end of Q3 of the fiscal year 2024-2025, a total of 40,121 users have registered with the program requesting to be excluded from mobile betting providers and licensed online casino operators.

Interestingly enough, 39% of all users who have registered with BetStop have requested a lifetime exclusion, whereas an additional 39% have requested to be excluded for a period of between 3 months to 2 years. Out of the total of registrants, 46% were either 30 or under, whereas 32% of individuals were between 31-40.

Out of this number, 12,358 users have either requested to cancel their self-exclusion prematurely or completed their period of inactivity. This means that as of March 31st, 2025, there are 27,763 individuals whose exclusions are still active.

Looking at new registrations per quarter, BetStop revealed a downward trend with an 11.1% decrease for 2024-2025 to 4,521 when compared to the previous quarter and a concerning drop of 39.7% when compared to the same quarter in the year before.

Moreover, this declining trend continued to plummet in the second and third quarters, with BetStop reporting 5,178 and 4,450 registrations, respectively.

When it comes to which states have the most players who registered with BetStop, New South Wales leads the way with a total of 12,531 registrations, followed closely by Victoria with 10,800 registrants, and Queensland in third place with 8,125.

Opposite to this, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory reported the lowest number of registrations, with 325 and 607, respectively.
