
Alberta’s regulated online gambling market is officially set to open on July 13, with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission (AGLC) releasing a definitive list of 28 approved operators.
This milestone positions the province as Canada’s second regulated iGaming jurisdiction, following the successful blueprint established by Ontario in 2022. The newly released “Gaming Registrations” document confirms that several of North America’s most recognizable sportsbook and casino brands have either completed or initiated the rigorous licensing process.
A Competitive Landscape of Global and Local Brands
The lineup features heavyweights such as FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars Sportsbook, alongside the government-run PlayAlberta platform. Many of these operators are preparing multi-brand strategies to capture diverse player segments.
Caesars, for instance, will launch Caesars Sportsbook, Caesars Palace Online, and Horseshoe Online Casino, while Super Group is bringing a massive suite of brands including Betway, JackpotCity, and Spin Casino.
The market also sees strong representation from Canadian-owned entities. BET99, Betty Gaming, and CasinoTime are all listed, alongside River Cree iGaming, an operator with established land-based roots in the province.
While giants like bet365 and Soft2Bet are currently absent from the AGLC’s initial list, regulators have indicated that additional operators may join the fray after the market officially opens.

The July 13 online gambling market launch date in Alberta is strategically aligned with a massive summer sports calendar. Not only will the market go live during the final stretch of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the championship match scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium, but it also precedes the highly anticipated Calgary Stampeders game on July 18.
Despite the excitement, the expansion has drawn some criticism. First Nations casino operators have raised concerns regarding potential revenue impacts on community casinos. Nonetheless, with Google’s revised gambling advertising policy now allowing licensed operators to run ads in Alberta, competition is expected to be fierce from day one.
