Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), France’s gambling authority, has released its 2024 gambling activity report, showing a steady number of mediation requests compared to the previous year.

According to the ANJ, the French regulator received a total of 1,541 mediation requests in 2024, a number that is almost double the figures from 2023.

Of this number, nearly 88% were linked to sports betting disputes, and out of the total number of requests, 741 cases were officially resolved by the French authority, while 728 were proclaimed inadmissible.

Moreover, 92% of all rejected cases were dismissed due to the lack of a previously written complaint to the French operator.

Of the total processed cases, 46.7% of the proposed resolutions to the ANJ’s were accepted by both the authority and the applicants.

Additionally, the French regulator, which has a maximum resolution period of 90 days, achieved an average processing time of just 37 days in 2024.

In addition to reporting figures of meditation procedures, the French ANJ highlighted four key recommendations for all gambling operators in France.

More specifically, the ANJ advised operators to refund player account balances if an account is shut-down due to suspected fraud.

Additionally, the ANJ recommends operator should improve live betting management by removing bets after an event is over as fast as possible.

Lastly, the ANJ also requested operators to be more alert over temporary accounts and emphasized the need for stronger safety measures to prevent problem gambling.

This report marks one of the first initiatives led by Jérôme Gallot, the newly appointed gaming mediator by ANJ gaming mediator. Gallot assumed the role in December after being added to the Consumer Mediation Evaluation and Control Commission’s list of consumer mediators.
