Spain’s gambling regulator has rolled out a new deposit limit system designed to aggregate consumer spending across all licensed iGaming operators. The Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) has established standardized caps set at seven hundred euros per day, one thousand seven hundred fifty euros per week, and three thousand three hundred euros for a four-week period.
Under the framework, players are permitted to amend or remove their limits once every three months. The adjustment process takes three business days and incorporates educational resources focused on the risks associated with gambling. The DGOJ emphasized that the new measure will particularly benefit the one-third of Spain’s total registered player base that maintains active accounts across multiple different operators. Although the combined deposit limit system is currently operating in a testing phase, it is fully available for use ahead of its formal launch scheduled for March 26, 2027.
Transitioning from individual to universal limits
The DGOJ provided advanced notice of the regulatory shift, noting that the framework is structured specifically to promote safer and more responsible gaming environments. Explaining the structural change, the regulator stated:
“This new system replaces the previous one, in which the financial limit was set independently for each operator, rather than per person. This meant that the total number of deposits that could be made individually in ger gambling market depended on the number of operators with whom each person held an account, allowing for deposits exceeding the initially established limits if activity was spread across different platforms.”
Comprehensive player portal for gaming activity
Alongside the unified deposit limits framework, the DGOJ has unveiled a comprehensive player portal. The digital platform provides consumers with a transparent view of their overall iGaming activity across all licensed operators. Through the portal, users can easily track their deposit levels, total stakes, winnings, and financial losses.
Furthermore, consumers can establish customizable spending and gaming activity alerts, as well as manage their combined deposit limits directly. Highlighting the strategic vision behind the rollout, the regulator added:
“With the launch of these two tools, the DGOJ is expanding the digital services available to the public and unifying access to information that was previously distributed among different gambling operators. In this way, the Directorate General for Gambling Regulation is taking another step towards placing the protection of gamblers at the heart of gambling regulation, strengthening measures to prevent risky behaviour and promoting safer, more responsible and more transparent environments through technological innovation.”
