Irish Bookmaker Launches Cinematic Ad Inspired by The Big Short to Promote Its Latest Football Betting Product Ahead of the 2026/27 Season
BoyleSports has enlisted French footballing legend David Ginola to headline its latest marketing campaign promoting its new “Squad Builder” product. Inspired by the Oscar-winning film The Big Short, the commercial features Ginola speaking directly to the camera to explain the mechanics of the betting offering.
Launched ahead of the 2026/27 football season, Squad Builder allows punters to select between two and five players across major leagues, choosing from seven statistical targets whose combined performances contribute to an overall squad total. The campaign rolls out across TV, VOD, digital, social, and customer-facing channels in 60-second and 30-second formats.
Executive Perspectives and Brand Strategy
Gill Blake-Swift, Director of Brand at BoyleSports, commented on the creative direction:
“We wanted to create something that people would genuinely enjoy watching; a piece of entertainment first, not simply another betting advert. We saw Squad Builder as an opportunity to push the creative further, with more confidence, personality and cultural relevance. David has the charisma to make the idea work immediately and the inspiration behind the film gives us a brilliant way of explaining a new product without making it feel like a demo. This is the kind of creative territory BOYLE Sports wants to occupy.”
The campaign continues BoyleSports’ heavy football-focused push, following a busy summer that included opening its 400th shop at Galway Racecourse, extending its front-of-shirt sponsorship with West Ham United, and serving as the headline sponsor for the Manchester United vs. Leeds United friendly renamed the BoyleSports Cup 2026. The operator also acts as Leeds United’s official betting partner in the UK and Ireland.
