Regulatory Takeover and Market Preparation
Betano is gearing up for its official entry into the Spanish market after Kaizen Gaming assumed control of a licensed betting vehicle previously operated as Kambi Sportsbook. Alongside this corporate transition, the group is actively recruiting a managing director for Spain based in Ceuta, signalling an active build-out of local operations. However, no official launch date has been announced, and Spanish customers are currently unable to open accounts, place wagers, or access local introductory offers.
Spain’s Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) registry indicates that Kaizen Gaming XYZ PLC holds a general betting licence, specific singular licences for fixed-odds sports betting, and corresponding advertising authorisations. The corporate entity underwent a formal name change from Kambi Sportsbook PLC to Kaizen Gaming XYZ PLC on July 14, inheriting technical approvals originally granted in February 2023 rather than initiating a brand-new application process.
Operational Build-Out and Future Outlook
Moving from regulatory clearance to a functional sportsbook involves setting up market-specific payment gateways, customer support channels, safer-gambling controls, and customer due diligence protocols. While the DGOJ records currently establish permissions exclusively for sports betting rather than a full multi-product casino rollout, the acquisition provides Kaizen with a secure legal foundation.
Industry observers note that until a named launch date and a live consumer-facing product are introduced, Spain remains an active market-entry project rather than a completed launch. The next definitive signal regarding Betano’s arrival in Spain will depend on official announcements from Kaizen Gaming.
