Challenger betting brand Midnite has officially redefined the "reach" of mobile wagering by becoming the first app to successfully execute a live bet from space, i.e. the upper atmosphere.

Challenger betting brand Midnite has officially redefined the “reach” of mobile wagering by becoming the first app to successfully execute a live bet from space, i.e. the upper atmosphere.

In a high-altitude demonstration of technical prowess, the operator launched a specialized device to 124,000 feet in space, where a mechanical astronaut hand placed a bet via the Midnite interface, backing England to win the World Cup at odds of 6/1.

Stratosphere Prowess: “Built Different” in Action

The campaign, executed in partnership with Sent Into Space, was designed to stress-test the app’s performance in extreme environments. By maintaining connectivity and functionality, and placing an actual bet, at the edge of space, Midnite aimed to prove its “Built Different” brand platform to a global audience.

Callum Wilson, Senior PR Manager at Midnite, highlighted the ambition behind the launch:

“By sending our app to space, we are showing our customers that we are truly Built Different. We have big ambitions at Midnite to separate ourselves from the rest, and becoming the first app to place a bet in space seemed a pretty good way of doing that. Our design and product team are very proud of the app we have created, and to showcase its prowess in another stratosphere is a representation of where Midnite aims to be.”

A Charitable Stake with Gareth Barry

Former England midfielder Gareth Barry collaborated on the mission, lending his tournament experience to the historic wager. Should England secure the World Cup trophy, Midnite has pledged to donate £10,000 to the Bobby Moore Fund.

Reflecting on the mechanical execution, Gareth Barry stated:

“I have confidence that this England side has what it takes to win the World Cup. Much like Midnite, I think this side is Built Different, and I wanted to back them in a way that hasn’t been done before. To get the chance to place a charity bet on England winning is great, but to see Midnite actually make it happen in space is amazing. I couldn’t believe it, watching the thumb move to place the bet in such a stunning setting. The app is clearly built different, working at such a height.”
