Merkur Casino UK has officially announced its acquisition of The Casino MK, a prominent gaming venue located in Milton Keynes.

The deal marks the company’s second land-based casino in the United Kingdom and reinforces its strategic expansion within the country.

The venue, situated in the Xscape leisure complex, was previously operated by Aspers before it ceased trading on April 7, 2025, after the parent company entered administration.

Merkur confirmed that preparations are already underway to refurbish and reopen the casino in the coming months. A significant recruitment drive is planned to staff the location, with the company aiming to create local jobs and explicitly encouraging both new and former employees of the casino to apply.

The revitalized property will feature a mix of popular table games, including blackjack, poker, and roulette, alongside an array of modern slot titles, with further upgrades planned to align the venue with Merkur’s high brand standards.

The acquisition is seen as a strategic move that builds on the success of Merkur’s first UK casino, which opened in Aberdeen in 2023. The company stated that the Aberdeen site has demonstrated strong consumer demand for its signature blend of gaming and hospitality.

Mark Schertle, COO of Merkur Casino UK, commented on the acquisition:

“The venue has played a significant role in the local leisure and entertainment market.”

The Casino MK expansion is part of a broader global growth strategy by the parent Merkur Group, which was recently granted a license by the Nevada Gaming Commission, signaling its re-entry into the US market.

Industry analysts view the Milton Keynes acquisition as a strong signal of confidence in the UK’s land-based casino sector, despite wider market challenges.
