A flag of Denmark, symbolizing the nation's iGaming market where online casino GGR surged by 40% year-over-year in May 2025.

Denmark’s gambling market experienced significant growth in May, with total gambling spend rising 19.5% compared to the same period in 2024.

New statistics released by the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, show that the overall increase was fueled primarily by a substantial surge in online casino activity.

The iGaming sector’s rate of growth showed a massive acceleration. Monthly Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) from online casinos recorded a year-on-year development of 40% in May.

This figure far surpasses the previous high-water mark of 27%, which was achieved in June of last year, and marks the highest growth rate since January 2021.

In concrete terms, iGaming GGR rose from DKK 278 million ($43.7m) in May 2024 to DKK 389 million in May 2025.

Mobile continues to dominate the Danish gambling ecosystem, accounting for 66.43% of all stakes in May, a figure that has remained steady throughout the year.

In contrast, the land-based casino sector has reported a slight decline of 4.7% this year compared to the equivalent months in 2024, though this was not enough to offset the strong growth in other verticals.

The report also included data from StopSpillet, the national helpline for gambling addiction.

The data revealed that young men between the ages of 18 and 25 are the most likely demographic to seek help, accounting for nearly 40% of all conversations with the service.
