Safer Gambling Week Reports Record-Breaking Social Media Numbers

Last updated on December 13th, 2024

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has released the details behind the statistics from the recent Safer Gambling Week and reported that the 2024 edition of this noble event is enjoying record-breaking numbers.

More specifically, during the Safer Gambling Week, the event generated more than 60 million impressions across several social media platforms, including Facebook, Linkedin, X, and Instagram.

This notes a whopping increase of 10 million impressions, given that the same event generated 50 million impressions in 2023.

Additionally, the Betting And Gaming Council revealed that the Safer Gambling Week also reported an increase in visits, with more than half a million users, as well as an increase in engagement, i.e. the number of safer gambling messages, and this includes both online and in-person.

Moreover, this year’s edition of Safer Gambling Week also saw increased support from stakeholders, including Premier League football clubs such as Southampton and Aston Villa, as well as industry leaders and Parliamentarians such as Minister of Gambling Baroness Fiona Twycross, Gambling Commission Chief Executive Andrew Rhodes, and current Shadow DCMS Secretary Stuart Andrew.

Grainne Hurst, the Chief Executive Officer of the Betting and Gaming Council, praised the record-breaking edition of the Safer Gambling Week and highlighted the dedication of the industry to “promoting safer gambling tools”.

These outstanding and record-breaking results prove once more that our industry is serious about promoting safer gambling tools available to customers and signposting the help and support available to those who need it. Whilst we await the details on the number of people using safer gambling tools, past years have shown us that an increase in the number of social media impressions has led to an increase in the use of popular tools – like time-outs and deposit limits – that only exist in the regulated industry. Thanks to Safer Gambling Week, we can be confident millions of people are better informed about the ways they can safely enjoy their hobby, and that’s something the entire industry can be proud of. As I said at the beginning of the week, our commitment to safer gambling is not just for one week of the year. It is our mission for every week of the year.
