Platform Handles Nearly $3 Billion in Wagers as BetBuilder and Player Props Drive Massive Engagement

OpenBet has reported over 175 million bets processed and close to $3 billion wagered across its global platform customers during a record-breaking World Cup.

This milestone marks the largest-ever betting event for OpenBet, with the platform demonstrating high reliability at scale during periods of peak activity.

England’s run to the semi-finals fueled standout volumes across UK-facing customers, highlighted by nearly 5 million pre-match bets for the Norway quarterfinal and 4.65 million for the match against Argentina.

Player Markets and In-Play Evolution

OpenBet’s expanded BetBuilder and Player Prop offerings catalyzed a major portion of tournament growth, introducing new markets like ‘either player to score’ and ‘player to be fouled’.

Fan behavior shifted noticeably, with ten of the twenty most repeated bet combinations incorporating a Player Goals or Player Stats selection, compared to four in 2022, none of which included stats. Furthermore, player stats selections grew nearly fivefold.

In-play wagering also expanded as the tournament advanced, reaching approximately one in six bets during the knockout rounds, with live bets featuring significantly higher average stakes than pre-match wagers.

In addition to core platform technology, OpenBet supplied Managed Trading Services to global operators, managing odds creation, trading content, risk, and liability.

Reflecting on the record-breaking event, OpenBet President Nikos Konstakis stated:

“A World Cup is one of the defining moments for our industry, and this was the largest betting event our platform has ever supported.

What stands out beyond the numbers is the extent to which player behaviour continues to evolve. Fans are no longer simply backing a result, they are building their own narrative around individual players, and our expanded BetBuilder and Player Prop offering met that demand while delivering the high-margin products operators need. Sustained peak load across a six-week tournament is different to managing a single event, and our platform handled it extremely well. The highest-profile operators trust us with the events that matter most, and this was the largest of them all.”
