The New York State Gaming Commission has released the results for mobile sports betting for the year between April 2024 and March 2025, showing a 20% increase when compared to the previous year.

Namely, mobile sports betting handle in New York rose by 20% to a total of $23.9 billion, year-on-year, recording a gross gaming revenue (GGR) of a whopping $2.14 billion.

Out of the full year, the highest-performing month for mobile sports betting was January 2025, a development that is very likely due to Super Bowl LIX, a period when sports betting activity usually goes up.

More specifically, January 2025 saw $247 million in gross gaming revenue and recorded a handle of $2.48 billion. This was closely followed by March 2025, when the sports betting handle increased by $2.44 billion, whereas the gross gaming revenue reached $161.8 million.

Furthermore, the next top-performing months include October 2024 with $2.32 billion, December with $2.28 billion, and November with a $2.27 billion sports wagering handle, numbers that can be attributed to the peak of the 2024/2025 NFL season.

Despite these results, the next top three highest-performing months after January were May with $203.3 million, September with $204.7 million, and November with $231.6 million, showing yet another interesting trend.

What is particularly interesting is that the year-on-year sports betting handle surpassed $1 billion every month between April 2024 and March 2025, marking the first time in the history of the state since mobile sports wagering was legalized back in 2022, marking an optimistic milestone and hints for a successful future.

Additionally, the New York Gaming Commission stated that $23.3 million out of the total revenue comes from prior penalties, fines, and previous adjustments, a figure that is mostly contributed by Underground, who paid $17.5 million in 2024.

Out of the total revenue, $1.11 billion will be allocated to support educational initiatives and projects within the state of New York, including a sum of $5 million to annual awards and sports programs for underserved youth, plus an additional $6 million towards treatment procedure and battling responsible gambling by sponsoring numerous charitable initiatives.
