The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) released its 2025 Sports Betting Integrity Report on Tuesday, revealing a concerning trend: suspicious betting alerts rose to 300, a 37% increase over the previous year.

The data, which covered 16 different sports, highlights the growing complexity of monitoring global markets.

The Geographic and Sporting Breakdown

  • Europe: Remained the primary focal point with 104 alerts (35% of the total).
  • Football: Led all sports with 110 alerts (37%).
  • Tennis: Ranked second with 25% of alerts.
  • Esports & Table Tennis: Tied for third at 11% each.

The IBIA’s investigations bore fruit, proving 54 matches to be corrupted and resulting in sanctions for 24 players, teams, and officials.

Africa: The Emerging Frontier

A significant portion of the 2025 Sports Betting Integrity Report focused on Africa, where alerts rose to 31. The region is projected to explode in value, with GGR expected to reach $19.4 billion by 2030. South Africa remains the market leader, followed by Nigeria and Ghana.

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, emphasized the role of collaborative intelligence:

“This is driven by operator intelligence generated by our membership and their continued commitment to identifying, disrupting and preventing betting-related corruption through collective action”.
