A graphic illustrating the partnership between EveryMatrix and BetBlocker to provide localized safer gambling tools for Greek players.

BetBlocker, the free and anonymous gambling management software, has kicked off 2026 with a major update, officially launching native Greek language support for its platform.

This release marks the first language expansion of the year for the charity, reinforcing its mission to provide accessible, barrier-free protection against gambling harm.

Bridging the Language Gap

With over 13 million Greek speakers worldwide, the BetBlocker update addresses a critical need for localized support. Research published by the National Library of Medicine in 2019 highlighted that 2.4% of the Greek population met the criteria for problem gambling, with risk factors often tied to minority status and lower income.

By offering the tool in Greek, BetBlocker ensures that these vulnerable groups can navigate complex blocking software without the added barrier of language.

Industry Collaboration

The translation project was realized through the support of EveryMatrix and independent contributor Christina Theophilos.

Jake Cachia, Head of Compliance at EveryMatrix, commented on the partnership:

“EveryMatrix is proud to partner with BetBlocker and support the Greek translation of the app. With BetBlocker now available in Greek, people in Greece can access the tool in their own language, making it easier to take practical steps to pause, stop, or reduce their gambling if they need to.”

Christina Theophilos emphasized the importance of the tool for those using unregulated sites:

“I sincerely hope that operators will signpost BetBlocker.org to those in need… this free tool allows individuals to self-exclude and block access to both licensed and illegal gambling websites, helping them regain a sense of control… offering hope, dignity, and protection to all those who need it most.”

Pedro Romero, Chief of Safer Gambling Partnerships at BetBlocker, noted that native language support is often the deciding factor in whether a user successfully completes the setup process during a moment of crisis.

“Supporting people in their native language is not a “nice to have”, it is often the difference between someone successfully reaching a blocked state and giving up part way through set up. Blocking software can be technically involved, requiring multiple manual changes to device settings, and many people seek out this support when they are already under stress or at a point of crisis, so clarity and familiarity of language matters. Language support also helps communities who can be underserved by national services, including people living as minorities in other countries, migrants, international workers, and anyone who cannot comfortably navigate technical instructions in the majority language. By prioritising localisation, not just direct translation, we help ensure BetBlocker is accessible, usable, and respectful across cultures, and easier for local partners to signpost effectively within the communities they support.”

About BetBlocker

BetBlocker is a registered charity in the UK and US, providing a free app that blocks access to over 326,000 gambling websites and 1,500 apps. The service, which supported over 300,000 active users in 2025, remains completely anonymous.
