Andrew Catterall, the newly appointed Group CEO of PointsBet Holdings.

PointsBet Holdings Limited announced on Wednesday that Andrew Catterall will succeed co-founder Sam Swanell as Group Chief Executive Officer. The leadership transition becomes effective on February 1, 2026, following a structured handover period.

Swanell, who has led the company for nearly a decade, will remain with PointsBet as a Non-Executive Director on the Board. He will also serve in an advisory capacity to support the new leadership.

Appointment Details

Catterall currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of PointsBet’s Australian division, a role he has held since July 2022. According to the company’s official filing with the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), Catterall will assume responsibility for PointsBet’s global operations, including its Canadian business. He will not join the Board of Directors upon his commencement as Group CEO.

Chairman Brett Paton stated that Catterall’s appointment concludes a succession planning process. Paton credited Catterall with strengthening the company’s Australian market share and driving operational improvements over the past three years.

Executive Background

Before joining PointsBet, Catterall held senior executive positions in the Australian racing and sports media sectors. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Racing.com and held C-suite roles at Racing Victoria and the Australian Football League (AFL).

Leadership Transition

Swanell stated that the timing was appropriate for a change in leadership as the company enters its next operational phase. He expressed confidence in Catterall’s ability to lead the business. Swanell co-founded PointsBet in 2015 and oversaw its expansion into the North American market, its 2019 public listing, and the subsequent sale of its US business to Fanaticsin 2024.

The transition follows the recent acquisition of a controlling interest in PointsBet by Japanese conglomerate MIXI, Inc., which now holds approximately 66% of the company.
