The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) of the United Arab Emirates that sets the framework for regulatory collaboration between the two governing bodies.

The regulatory framework, accelerated by Choose New Jersey, will focus on responsible gambling, technological developments, and cybersecurity in the commercial gaming sector, a development that will see the two regulatory bodies join forces in a historic collaboration.

More specifically, the Memorandum of Understanding means that the DGE and the GCGRA will establish a working relationship that will include several areas of collaboration, including online gambling security, consumer safeguards, and the exchange of the most effective regulatory practices.

Kevin P. Mullally, Chief Executive Officer of the GCGRA, said that this partnership is a unique opportunity for:

Commercial gaming is a key pillar of the UAE’s strategy for diversified economic growth, playing a significant role in driving tourism and attracting foreign investment. This moment represents a unique opportunity to align innovative technology with modern, collaborative regulation to unlock substantial economic potential while ensuring the highest standards of consumer protection.

Similarly, Wesley Mathews, President and Chief Executive Officer at Choose New Jersey, hailed New Jersey and the UAE as major “global players” that offer unique experiences while building on economic growth and the safety aspect of the industry:

New Jersey and the UAE are global players in the gaming industry, offering unique experiences for consumers while increasing economic opportunity in a rapidly growing industry. This MOU will advance New Jersey’s gaming infrastructure and technology ecosystem, securing the state’s international competitiveness in this key sector.

This development comes at a time when the UAE is making serious moves to establish itself as the top gaming market in the lucrative Asian market, consequently going after the top market on the continent, Macau.
