In a significant expansion of its player protection toolkit, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has announced a formal partnership with Gamban.
The agreement ensures that any resident in the state can now access and install Gamban’s award-winning self-exclusion software free of charge.
Bolstering the Responsible Gaming Strategy
Gamban is designed to block access to all forms of online gambling, including regulated sportsbooks, crypto-casinos, and social sweepstakes, across all user devices. The software is notoriously difficult to remove, providing a critical safety net for the approximately 2% of Americans who meet the criteria for gambling addiction.
Sandra Johnson, MGCB’s Responsible Gaming Section Manager, emphasized the accessibility of the new tool:
“Gamban helps people take back control, and this partnership ensures that anyone in Michigan who wants that help can get it – free of charge.”
The “Gamban” View on Barriers to Help
The initiative allows users to opt-in for protection periods ranging from one to five years. Crucially, residents utilizing this free service are not required to join the state’s formal online self-exclusion database, allowing for a more private first step toward recovery.
Matt Zarb-Cousin, Director of External Affairs at Gamban, added:
“We are delighted to partner with the Michigan Gaming Control Board to make Gamban free for people where cost might otherwise be a barrier. When someone takes the first step toward quitting gambling, they will be made aware of all the services available in the state via the Gamban app, while it works to block gambling sites and apps in the background.”
This partnership with Gamban adds a powerful layer to Michigan’s existing awareness programs, such as “Don’t Regret the Bet,” establishing the state as a leader in proactive harm minimization.
