The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has revealed its Annual Activity Report, which shows a significant increase in the use of safer gambling tools by European players.

According to data from the 2024 Annual Sustainability Report, the number of European players who used responsible gambling tools reached a record-breaking 21 million people or 65% of the total customer base in Europe.

Moreover, members of EGBA also sent more than 67 million messages to players focusing on responsible gambling, once again underlining the commitment of the sector to raising awareness and educating users on safer play.

EGBA also put special emphasis on the European Safer Gambling Week, the most important safer play week in Europe, and an event that this year expanded to 26 countries, involved 195 stakeholders and saw eight national gambling regulators participating in the event.

The latest edition of the project reached 3 million people across targeted markets and led to 4,500 registrations across 20 events. As a result of the success, EGBA praised the ongoing developments in the field of safer gambling in Europe, particularly Finland and its upcoming legislation that will see the country introduce a multi-licensing model.

Additionally, EGBA has also put an emphasis on anti-money laundering initiatives and organized workshops to bolster the defence of the sector and teach how operators can counteract criminal endeavours.

According to EGBA, its members managed to hit a 15% growth in their GGR (online gross revenue), which reached €13.5 billion in 2024, with the association stating that the majority of this figure is contributed by casino games, which make for 51% of the total amount.

Lastly, EGBA celebrated another milestone, namely the inclusion of LeoVegas Group, Superbet Group, and Sumsub, in its association.

Maarten Haijer, Secretary-General of EGBA, commented:

It was a significant year for EGBA: our membership expanded, we hosted a record-breaking European Safer Gambling Week that reached over 3 million citizens with safety messages, and we provided input into many important policy discussions.
