Australia’s national self-exclusion service, BetStop, has released comprehensive data from its second full year of operation, showing a significant annual drop in new registrations for the 2024/25 fiscal period.

The report, which covers the year ending June 30, indicates a complex picture of usage trends across the nation.

Overall, the number of individuals registering for self-exclusion fell by 31.7% compared to the previous year, with a total of 18,869 new sign-ups during the 2024/25 period. This downward annual trend was consistent across every quarter of the year. However, the final quarter (ending June 30) showed a short-term reversal, with new registrations increasing by 5.8% compared to the prior quarter.

The demographic data highlights that BetStop is most utilized by younger Australians. Individuals under the age of 30 constituted the largest group, at 47% of all registrants. The 31-to-40 age bracket was the second largest, accounting for an additional 31%. When choosing the length of their exclusion, users showed an even split between long-term and permanent options.

Lifetime exclusions were selected by 39% of individuals, the exact same percentage that chose temporary periods ranging from three months to two years.

Geographically, registrations were highest in the most populous states: New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. While every state and territory recorded a year-on-year decrease in sign-ups, five of the eight jurisdictions noted a rise in the final quarter, mirroring the national short-term trend.

These latest figures provide a detailed snapshot of evolving self-exclusion patterns as the BetStop service continues to mature.
