The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has officially extended its domestic web-blocking matrix, issuing formal regulatory directives ordering national internet service providers (ISPs) to completely restrict access to six additional offshore gambling domains found to be operating in direct violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
The Evolving Scope of the Blocking Matrix
The latest web-blocking enforcement sweep by ACMA targets six active digital operations targeting Australian consumers without localized licensing credentials:
- Play Jonny
- ACO96
- TCL99
- Waboom77
- Wonaco
- WooSpin
The ACMA reiterated that synchronized ISP domain blocking remains one of its most potent weapons to protect citizens from deceptive, cross-border digital betting practices.
Since the formal introduction of its first domain-blocking request in November 2019, the regulator has systematically shut down access to 1,708 illegal gambling sites and promotional affiliate directories. Furthermore, the authority confirmed that over 230 unauthorized digital brands have proactively chosen to completely withdraw from the local territory since the government launched its strict enforcement updates back in 2017, proving that sustained regulatory pressure effectively limits black-market penetration.
Issuing Strict Consumer Financial Warnings
In its public notice, the regulatory body detailed that depositing capital with unregulated, offshore networks exposes players to extreme financial risks, completely lacking the robust data safety, game integrity, and player protection safeguards required under onshore licensing structures.
The ACMA warned that Australian consumers who continue to frequent these unauthorized domains risk having their funds permanently withheld by offshore operators with zero legal recourse. To safeguard personal capital, citizens are being strongly directed to cross-reference any betting site against the ACMA’s official, centralized registry of licensed gambling service providers before establishing an account or executing any online financial transfers.
