GamStop, one of the leading and most influential responsible gambling organizations, has started the year by introducing a new, 5-year, long-term exclusion tool after reporting record-breaking registrations from players with problem gambling.

Exactly 415 players registered with GamStop on January 1st alone, followed by 413 individuals on January 2nd and an additional 396 users on January 6th, marking the highest daily registration trend with GamStop since May 2023.

As a result of the massive increase in registrations and enhanced feedback from its users who requested longer exclusion periods, GamStop has additionally introduced a new exclusion tool called the “5-year-auto-renewal” option.

This innovation allows GamStop users to extend their exclusion period automatically for an additional 5 years without the necessity of manual renewal and physical intervention.

This groundbreaking feature was developed after an independent study by Ipsos, which showed that many users who struggle with problem gambling and express anxiety when the exclusion periods are coming to an end want longer-term exclusion options.

Thanks to the new exclusion tool, GamStop will now send email alerts every 15 months to all users with a 5-year exclusion with the goal of informing them about upcoming renewal dates and the expiration of the self-exclusion.

*Interesting fact: The GamStop self-exclusion option allows users to self-exclude themselves from gambling for either 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years.

Those who choose to self-exclude for a 5-year period can also upgrade to include an auto-renewal feature, and this can be done by turning the feature on in their account settings menu.

Fiona Palmer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GamStop, commented on the new tool and said that this feature came to life as a result of “consistently listening to feedback and evaluating the effectiveness” of their service.

We have come a very long way since our launch in April 2018, but our journey doesn’t stop there. Our goal is to provide consumers with tools and options that empower them to take control of their gambling activity. As such, we’re consistently listening to feedback and evaluating the effectiveness of our service. Consumers wanted longer exclusion periods, and we listened. The introduction of the 5-year auto-renewal exclusion is an important step in ensuring consumers peace of mind when using our service and helping vulnerable consumers take a sustained break from their gambling.
