AstroPay

Digital wallet for emerging markets, letting users in Latin America and beyond pay international sites in multiple currencies.

AstroPay in Short

AstroPay is a digital wallet and payments provider built for consumers in emerging markets who want to buy from international websites. It was founded in 2009 in Uruguay, grew up serving Latin America, and is now headquartered in London. Since 2023 it has reorganised the business around a single global wallet app, stepping back from the older AstroPay Card and direct processing lines that first made its name. Through the wallet a user can hold and move money in several currencies, including US dollars, euros and Latin American currencies such as the Argentine peso and Brazilian real, and pay merchants by QR code, payment link, bank transfer or a Mastercard branded virtual or physical card. iGaming is one of the consumer sectors it serves, sitting alongside general e commerce and international remittances, and operators that target Latin American players often list it as a deposit option.

Wallet and Payment Tools

Multi Currency Wallet

The core product is a mobile and web wallet that lets a user top up in their local currency and then spend internationally, holding balances in several currencies and converting between them. That cross currency design is what makes it useful for players depositing with operators based outside their own country, where a local card might otherwise be declined.

Cards and Checkout

AstroPay issues virtual and physical Mastercard cards tied to the wallet, and supports checkout by QR code, payment link and bank transfer, so a merchant can accept it online or in person without a separate card scheme relationship. The cards let a balance be spent anywhere Mastercard is taken, extending the wallet beyond sites that integrate it directly.

Local Funding Methods

Because its users are concentrated in emerging markets, the wallet leans on local funding methods, letting people add money through the banks and the cash or transfer options common in their country before paying an international site that would not otherwise reach them.

Where AstroPay Is Strong

AstroPay's strength is geographic. It began in Latin America and has since spread across EMEA, Africa and the Asia Pacific region, building a base in markets where cards are less universal and cross border payments are harder to complete. For an iGaming operator, that makes it less a universal wallet like the large European brands and more a practical way to reach depositing players in specific regions, Latin America above all. Its 2023 shift toward the wallet, and away from processing, frames how it now presents itself: a consumer facing app for paying international merchants from an emerging market base, rather than a behind the scenes processor.
