Vyking and FIRST.bet partnership
Key Takeaways
⏱ 3 min read
1
Vyking designed and built the entire player experience — The platform provider's product team owns the interface and every decision about design and user flow, from in play market presentation to bet slip behaviour.
2
FIRST.bet keeps the engine — Pricing, trading and risk sit with FIRST.bet, including bet acceptance and settlement. New backend capability is still built jointly.
3
SportOS ships without a frontend by design — FIRST.bet describes SportOS as a sportsbook operating system for operators that want to compete on their own product rather than inherit a supplier's.
4
Mobile was built in house too — Vyking states it put its own design, frontend development and testing behind the product, including the mobile experience.
5
Both delivery options stay available — FIRST.bet sportsbook solutions remain available across Vyking's operator network, either as an iFrame or through SportOS.
6
No live date or named operator is given — The announcement describes a product that has been built. It does not say when it goes live, or which operators on Vyking's network are running it.

Vyking has built its own sportsbook on SportOS, the sportsbook operating system from FIRST.bet that ships without a player facing layer. The platform provider’s product team designed and developed the entire player experience, with FIRST.bet running the sportsbook engine behind it.

Vyking owns the player interface and every decision about design and user flow, from the way markets are presented in play to how the bet slip behaves. That included building the mobile product, which the company says was shaped around how players actually bet rather than around a shared roadmap. FIRST.bet provides the capability underneath: pricing, trading and risk, including bet acceptance and settlement. New backend capability is still built together, and owning the frontend does not change that.

What is actually being unbundled

Strip the announcement back and it describes a split that most sportsbook supply arrangements do not offer. The odds, the risk position and the money are one product. The screen the player uses is a different product. FIRST.bet is selling the first and declining to insist on the second.

That matters more for a company like Vyking than it would for a single operator. Vyking is itself a supplier, running white label, turnkey and self service platforms for other businesses. A supplier that resells someone else’s sportsbook is bound by that supplier’s release schedule and visual identity. A supplier that owns the frontend can ship changes on its own timetable and present the product as its own across its network. The announcement is as much about who controls the roadmap as about who controls the design.

Both sides say the same thing from opposite ends

Tom Light, Founder and CEO of FIRST.bet, put the supplier position plainly.

Our job is the sportsbook behind their product: pricing, trading, risk, bet acceptance and settlement. What the player sees belongs to Vyking. I do not think an operator should have to inherit our visual identity in order to use our engine.

Franz Gerhart, CEO of Vyking, described the same arrangement from the side doing the building.

We know how players in our operators’ markets behave, and we wanted a sportsbook that showed it. SportOS let us build that ourselves. We designed the product, our team wrote the frontend, and we put real work into the mobile experience, because that is where the players are.”“FIRST.bet runs the engine behind it and that has held up. We own what the player sees, and when we want to change it, we change it.

Light also credits the work rather than the arrangement, saying Vyking had a clear view of what its clients needed and built it themselves rather than asking someone else to build it for them.

What the announcement does not cover

No go live date is given. No operator on Vyking’s network is named as running the SportOS build, and no markets are specified. The announcement describes a product that has been designed, developed and tested, not one with a stated launch or a reference customer, and it does not say how long the build took or how many people worked on it.

Commercial terms are absent too, which is normal for an announcement of this kind but relevant here. Both delivery options remain on offer across Vyking’s network, so the question a competing operator would ask is what owning the frontend costs relative to taking the iFrame.
