US Sports Betting Giant Prepares First Major International Expansion Following AGCO Approval
Fanatics has secured an iGaming operator licence from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), clearing the path for its entry into Canada’s largest online gambling market. This milestone marks the company’s first major B2C rollout outside of the United States, where it currently operates online sports betting across 22 states and Washington, D.C., alongside online casino products in four states.
Navigating an Established and Competitive Operator Landscape
Upon launch, Fanatics will enter a dense commercial market currently comprising 48 licensed operators managing 83 gaming sites, joining recent high-profile entrants like Hard Rock Bet and DAZN Bet. Ontario’s online gaming market generated over $4.2bn in gross gaming revenue during its fourth year of operation, bolstered by high player migration to regulated channels.
Despite Ontario’s robust regulatory framework and commercial attractiveness, analysts have questioned market saturation. Canadian Gaming Association senior vice-president Amanda Brewer noted that success will depend heavily on exceptional user experience, app design, customer service, and rewards.
