Joint Operations in Sheffield and Doncaster Target Illegal Gambling, Counterfeit Goods, and Organised Crime
UK law enforcement authorities and partner agencies, including the Gambling Commission, seized cash estimated to exceed £110,000 alongside a large quantity of gold during raids on venues suspected of illegal gambling and money laundering. The enforcement activity, which ran from Tuesday, 4 August to Wednesday, 5 August 2026, formed part of Operation Duxford and Operation Snaresbrook.
Seizures and Arrests Across Multiple Locations
Warrants executed in Sheffield and Doncaster uncovered sixteen illegal betting terminals inside venues located on London Road in Sheffield and Silver Street in Doncaster. Substantial amounts of cash and gold, comprising bars, coins, and jewelry, were also recovered during the operations. Three individuals were arrested initially on suspicion of gambling offenses, immigration breaches, and possessing a bladed article.
Expanding beyond illegal gambling, Wednesday morning warrants in Sheffield led to additional discoveries:
- Three motorbikes suspected of being stolen were seized from a property in Norton Avenue.
- More than 2,200 packs of counterfeit tobacco valued at approximately £11,000 were found at an address in Glover Road.
- A cannabis setup containing 279 mature and sapling plants was discovered at a premises in Chesterfield Road. Four further arrests were made during Wednesday’s operations, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.

“This coordinated activity is a true example of partnership working at its best. Weeks of planning alongside colleagues has allowed us to develop intelligence and crack down on the harmful trade of illegal gambling, which we know can fund other activity linked to organised crime. But we’ve also cast a much wider net to focus on the issues that we know matter most to our communities. This is not a ‘one-off’, and work to progress investigations and home in on similar offending in our communities will continue.”

“Illegal gambling isn’t a victimless crime. Unlicensed operators often have links to wider criminal activity, exploit vulnerable people and undermine legitimate regulated businesses. This action should send a clear message – if you’re running an illegal gambling operation we will work with police and other partners to shut you down and ensure you face serious consequences.”
Detective Superintendent Al Burns of the Yorkshire & Humber Regional and Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU) noted:
“Our support for this operation demonstrates an exciting new chapter in the work of our Regional Intelligence Unit which has recently been bolstered with additional staff. This gives the team an enhanced capability to move quickly alongside colleagues from our constituent forces and partner agencies to turn intelligence from the community into action on the streets to target organised criminality.”
