Strengthening Community Sport Through the MERKUR Community Programme
Leading gaming company MERKUR Casino UK has donated a combined £1,980 to two Greater Manchester sports organisations via its MERKUR Community Programme, supporting grassroots sports and expanding community participation in the region.
Old Trafford Sports Club (OTSC) received £1,000 to purchase essential equipment such as goalposts and cover operational expenses, ensuring the club can continue hosting community events and sports activities. Additionally, MERKUR donated £980 to Flixton Jaguars, an under-13 boys’ team within Flixton Juniors AFC, to fund new home and away kits that provide every player with a full matching kit.
Supporting Local Clubs and Community Engagement
Philip Boast, Administrative Secretary at Old Trafford Sports Club, expressed gratitude for the MERKUR funding, noting that local clubs rely heavily on support to keep facilities accessible and welcoming amid growing community demand. Dave Niblett, Team Manager at Flixton Jaguars, added that the new kits foster a strong sense of pride and belonging both on and off the pitch for young players developing their skills.
Mark Schertle, chief operating officer at MERKUR Casino, said:
“Grassroots sports clubs play an incredibly important role in bringing communities together, providing opportunities for people of all ages to stay active, build confidence and develop lasting relationships. We are proud to support both Old Trafford Sports Club and Flixton Jaguars through our programme. The fantastic work these organisations do has a real impact locally and we hope this funding helps them continue to grow and provide those opportunities to even more people across Manchester.”
