draftkings alberta regulated igaming market launch

In a significant move that underscores the rapid evolution of the Canadian gambling landscape, DraftKings has officially announced its intent to enter Alberta’s upcoming regulated iGaming market.

The operator plans to launch its full suite of online casino and sportsbook products in the province this July, marking a pivotal expansion of its North American footprint.

A Strategic Summer Launch

Alberta is scheduled to open its commercial iGaming gates on July 13, 2026, making it the second Canadian province, following Ontario, to transition to a multi-operator regulated model. The timing of the launch is strategically aligned with a surge in global sports interest, providing a high-traffic environment for the operator’s debut.

Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings, highlighted the significance of the timing:

“We’re excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings’ footprint in Canada and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta. With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup, hosted right here in North America, it’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.”

Market Scale and Regulatory Readiness

The move into Alberta will mark DraftKings’ seventh active online casino jurisdiction and its 34th jurisdiction for sports betting across North America.

The operator is currently navigating the final stages of regulatory approval and licensing from provincial authorities to ensure a compliant and secure rollout.

The competitive landscape in Alberta is already heating up. Alongside DraftKings, Caesars Entertainment has already initiated pre-registration protocols for Alberta residents, following the provincial government’s January 2026 announcement of the market’s structure.

As July approaches, industry analysts expect a high-velocity “land grab” as major North American operators vie for dominance in what is projected to be one of the continent’s most lucrative per-capita markets.
