Michigan’s gaming industry has reported a substantial year-on-year revenue increase of 39.5% for August 2025, with total gross receipts reaching $397.6 million.

The impressive growth was driven by a powerful performance in both the iGaming and sports betting sectors, alongside solid results from Detroit’s three commercial casinos.

The state’s online gaming and sports betting operators generated a combined total of $217.2 million in gross receipts for the month. iGaming was the primary driver, contributing $175.4 million, while online sports betting accounted for $41.8 million.

This strong digital performance was complemented by the retail sector, with Detroit’s commercial casinos—MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown, reporting a collective revenue of $180.4 million.

This figure represents an 11% increase compared to August 2024 and a 16% rise from the previous month, with table games and slots generating $177.3 million and retail sports betting adding $3.1 million.

This robust performance translated into significant tax contributions for the state. In August, the gaming industry paid a total of $48.5 million in taxes and other payments to the State of Michigan.

Online gaming and sports betting operators contributed $41.2 million of this total, while the Detroit casinos paid $7.3 million in state gaming taxes.

Individually, MGM Grand Detroit continued to lead the retail casino market with a 47% market share, followed by MotorCity Casino at 30% and Hollywood Casino at Greektown with 23%.

The combined results underscore the continued strength and gowth of Michigan’s regulated gaming market, highlighting the powerful synergy between its thriving online and land-based sectors.

The August figures indicate a healthy and expanding industry that provides a significant and growing source of revenue for the state.
