BetMGM has become the first online gaming operator to introduce branded gift cards in Canada, launching the new payment solution across Ontario.

This strategic initiative, facilitated through a partnership with payment solutions provider Tappp, makes BetMGM gift cards available for purchase at approximately 2,500 retail locations throughout the province.

The program provides customers with a convenient and secure method to fund their BetMGM iGaming and sportsbook accounts. After purchasing a physical gift card, users can instantly deposit the funds by redeeming a unique PIN on the BetMGM platform. This retail-to-digital bridge offers a tangible payment alternative for players.

This Canadian launch is modelled after a highly successful program in the United States, which debuted in September 2021.

According to the company, the US gift card initiative has achieved a remarkable 99% redemption rate and has seen its distribution network expand rapidly across 15 states.

While following this proven model, the Canadian implementation has been adapted to meet local regulations. Notably, players in Ontario using prepaid cards to fund their accounts are subject to a weekly deposit limit of $250.

Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer at BetMGM, said:

Ontario has proved to be a robust market for sports betting and iGaming, with BetMGM as one of the top-tier operators. We are proud to be the first to debut sportsbook-branded gift cards and offer players another convenient way to fund their accounts.

Sandy Agarwal, Founder and CEO of Tappp, commented:

We are constantly seeking new ways to increase the accessibility of our clients’ gift card products. Securing the distribution of BetMGM gift cards in Ontario is another exciting first for us as it opens up an entirely new country for BetMGM and its retail customers.

The introduction of gift cards in Ontario is a key component of BetMGM’s broader North American growth strategy.

The move complements the operator’s recent efforts to enhance its content offerings, which have included new casino game partnerships with suppliers like RubyPlay and Octoplay in regulated US markets such as New Jersey.
